Hyundai Steel to work with Asha Chennai to improve schools in Kancheepuram Dist

Hyundai Steel approached Asha Chennai to work with the schools near their facility at Sengadu. Asha Chennai studied the area and submitted a proposal. This was approved and Hyundai Steel has decided to fund the project. This will be administered as part of Project Sangamam-Thiruvallur.

Hyundai Steel is located at Sengadu Village on the read from Sriperumbudur to Thirvuallur. They wanted to work with villages in the vicinity of their facility to improve the quality of education in the schools in those villages. They had heard about the work we are doing as part of Project Sangamam and Sangamam Kanini  and wanted to do something similar at these schools.
Asha Chennai undertook a field study of the schools in these areas and plan to cover the following villages. Here are the list of villages, the status of the schools there and the work we intend to do there.

PUPS Sengadu

This primary school has 27 children and 2 teachers. The number of students in the school has declined compared to the previous year. The plan is to provide one computer teacher at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. The teacher will visit the school one day a week. There is no computer provided by the Government at this school.

PUMS Ayakolathur

This primary school has 54 children and 2 teachers and the middle school has 33 students and 4 teacher. The plan is to provide one regular teacher that will go to school 5 days a week and one computer teacher that will go one day a week at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. There are 5 computers provided by the Government at this school.

ADW Primary School at Srirampalayam

This primary school has 24 children and 2 teachers. The number of students in the school has declined compared to the previous year. The plan is to provide one computer teacher at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. The teacher will visit the school one day a week. There is no computer provided by the Government at this school.

PUPS AN Kandigai

This primary school has 24 children and 2 teachers. The number of students in the school has remained more or less constant compared to the previous year. The plan is to provide one computer teacher at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. The teacher will visit the school one day a week. There are no functional computers provided by the Government at this school.

PUPS Bakthavatchalam Nagar

This primary school has 28 children and 2 teachers. The plan is to provide one computer teacher that will go one day a week at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. There are no functional computers provided by the Government at this school.

PUMS Valasai Vettikadu

This middle school has about 100 children and 5 teachers. The plan is to provide one computer teacher that will go one day a week at this school to teach English and Mathematics in addition to basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. There are 5 computers at the school but none of them appear to be functional.

Asha presented the proposal to Hyundai Steel and they have approved it as well as released the funds to implement the same in the academic year 2017-18.
