September Teacher Trainings at Asha Chennai

Training sessions were organised in Comptuer science and Maths for all teachers. Sessions for computer teachers were organised during the exam week on Sept 18th and 19th at Thiruvallur and for all teachers from Sept 24th to 26th in Olcott Memorial School.

Distribution of materials at Sangamam Schools

Educational and sports materials were purchased and distributed at all 61 Glovis Sangamam schools and 8 Project Sangamam schools. On Sept 13th a functions were organised at 5 schools to distribute materials to the students. Members from Hyundai Glovis also participated in this function.

Laptop Donations to Schools – July 2019

Asha received donations of used laptops from several individual donors and small companies. These were given to various schools that didnt have adequate number of computers.

Pudhukandigai Toilet Inauguration

The new toilet at Pudhukandigai was completed. This was inaugurated by Hyundai Glovis and BEO of the Poondi block of Thuruvallur on 29th Aug 2019.

RightStart – 2019

RightStart – 2019 was conducted from May 27th to 31st at Vanavani school in IIT campus. It was attended by about 65 teachers from all Asha Chennai projects and partner organisations.

Auroville and Other Training Sessions

During the holidays in May, the Glovis Sangamam teachers participated in several training sessions including a 8-day residential training on Programming and Maths at Auroville.

Pudhukandigai Toilet Construction

On Mar 11th – Jun 6th Construction of new toilets at two schools at Ramanjeri and Pudhukandigai were sanctioned by Hyundai Glovis

Teacher Excursions

on May 20th – June 8th 2019: Asha projects, Sangamam and Thulasi organised excursions for their teachers during May 2019. Thulasi teachers went to Ooty and Sangamam teachers to Kodaikanal.

Trimble Funding for Asha Chennai projects

Trimble Information Technologies the Indian arm of Trimble has decided to fund Project Thulasi and Poorna Vidhya for the period Jan to May 2019. They are also considering building and repairing toilets at schools supported by these projects as well as Project Pearl.

Asha Impressions – 2019

   Asha Impressions, a presentation and programming competition for teams from our supported schools was successfully conducted on April 25th. PUPS Velagapuram won the presentation competition from a field of 90 teams and PUMS Ramanjeri won the programming competition from a field of 15 teams.

Glovis Sangamam Excursions

On March – April 2019 : Asha is conducting excursions for 600 children from 19 Glovis supported schools over 3 days.Because of the changes in the school schedules because of the elections, we had to make lots of changes to the excursion schedule.

Annanagar Library Teacher Activities

Teachers from Glovis Sangamam project have been visiting the library at Annanagar once a week and have been conducting many activites related to Science experiments, Maths games, Craft activities etc.

Trainers visit Sangamam schools

On 20th March : Mrs. Usha Ananthan, an English teacher trainer and volunteer of Asha Chennai, visited 4 Glovis Sangamam schools on March 13th. Mrs Meena Suresh with Mrs. Kalyani, our Maths trainers from Ramanujan Museum, visited 3 schools on 20th March.

Student Material Distribution 2019 — Part II

On March – April 2019 : Hyjundai Glovis has sponsored a sports costume, a pair of chappals and a hygiene kit for all students in the 60 supported schools. The distribution of the materials started in early Feb. However distribution to all the 60 schools and then exchange of items in wrong size etc. got completed only by April.

Blackboard Painting at Glovis Sangamam Schools

On January and February of 2019 : Asha undertook and completed the repainting of blackboards and scribble areas at 25 schools supported by Hyundai Glovis. These were done in January and February of 2019.

Sugadharam 2019 — Repair of 3 toilets

On Jan to Mar 2019 : As part of Sugadharam Thiruvallur – 2019 work, we first started the repair of three toilets at Neyveli, Kunnavalam and Athipatu. The works were done from Jan to Mar 2019.

Written Assessments

From Feb 18th to March 10th 2019: Asha Chennai conducted written assessments at all the 89 supported schools from Feb 18th to March 10th. The papers were graded by teachers and volunteers. Reports have since been generated and given to all the schools.
