Asha Chennai is continuing to run mini-schools. Due to greater demand from the communities, we are now running more mini-schools (24 mini-schools at the end of August).
June 2020: Teachers haven’t been able to do their usual work at schools ever since the schools closed in mid-March. Asha Chennai has been using their time productively to enhance our content, provide them training, etc.
June 2020: As the schools remain shut down thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, Asha Chennai is running mini-schools in the villages that we support where we also have local teachers.
Hyundai Glovis that supports our Project Sangamam in Thiruvallur district has donated 100 used computers to be given to the schools we support.
We painted the blackboard at over 30 schools belonging to Project Sangamam during Feb 2020..
Excursions were organised for 4th and 5th standard children from 23 schools to Birla Planetarium and Guindy Park and for 7th and 8th std children from 7 schools to Senji and Thiruvannamalai. This was sponsored by Hyundai Glovis.
Asha Chennai conducted written assessments at all the 99 supported schools. Teachers were trained and exams conducted in a rigorous manner at all the schools.
With support from Trimble we carried out renovation to toilets at the middle schools in Kumaragiri and Athikinaru in Thoothukudi District.
With support from Hyundai Glovis we distributed sports dresses, chappals and hygiene kits to all the 61 schools supported by them.
Asha Chennai organised an excursion for our teachers to Mysore from Dec 27th to 29th to have fun as well as gain exposure.
The toilet works taken up under Glovis Sugadharam work in Thiruvallur received wide newspaper coverage in local papers.
Training sessions were held over 3 days for all the computer teachers of Asha Chennai.
Asha Chennai conducted oral assessments in all the 96 supported schools in November 2019.
The construction of the toilets at Ramanjeri was completed in late October and an inauguration function was organised for it on Oct 24th 2019.
Training sessions were organised in Comptuer science and Maths for all teachers. Sessions for computer teachers were organised during the exam week on Sept 18th and 19th at Thiruvallur and for all teachers from Sept 24th to 26th in Olcott Memorial School.
As part of Glovis Sugadharam project repair works are being carried out at the toilets in schools in Thiruvallur. In Aug/Sept works were carried out at 6 of the schools.
Educational and sports materials were purchased and distributed at all 61 Glovis Sangamam schools and 8 Project Sangamam schools. On Sept 13th a functions were organised at 5 schools to distribute materials to the students. Members from Hyundai Glovis also participated in this function.
Asha received donations of used laptops from several individual donors and small companies. These were given to various schools that didnt have adequate number of computers.
The new toilet construction works at Pudhukandigai and Ramanjeri are progressing. This is supported by Hyundai Glovis.
The new toilet at Chidambarampatti in Thoothukudi District was inaugurated on the 17th of August by Asha and Trimble Technologies.
A new toilet is being constructed for the primary school at Chidambarampatti in Thoothukudi District with support from Trimble Technologies.
Asha Chennai setup libraries at 6 schools with the support of Hyundai Glovis in June 2019.
The new toilet at Pudhukandigai was completed. This was inaugurated by Hyundai Glovis and BEO of the Poondi block of Thuruvallur on 29th Aug 2019.
From the excess funds of 2018-19, Asha Chennai undertook some infrastructure work at various Glovis Sangamam schools during May and June of 2019.
RightStart – 2019 was conducted from May 27th to 31st at Vanavani school in IIT campus. It was attended by about 65 teachers from all Asha Chennai projects and partner organisations.
During the holidays in May, the Glovis Sangamam teachers participated in several training sessions including a 8-day residential training on Programming and Maths at Auroville.
On Mar 11th – Jun 6th Construction of new toilets at two schools at Ramanjeri and Pudhukandigai were sanctioned by Hyundai Glovis
on May 20th – June 8th 2019: Asha projects, Sangamam and Thulasi organised excursions for their teachers during May 2019. Thulasi teachers went to Ooty and Sangamam teachers to Kodaikanal.
Trimble Information Technologies the Indian arm of Trimble has decided to fund Project Thulasi and Poorna Vidhya for the period Jan to May 2019. They are also considering building and repairing toilets at schools supported by these projects as well as Project Pearl.
Asha Impressions, a presentation and programming competition for teams from our supported schools was successfully conducted on April 25th. PUPS Velagapuram won the presentation competition from a field of 90 teams and PUMS Ramanjeri won the programming competition from a field of 15 teams.
