STATIONERY DISTRIBUTION DRIVE 2024

In a child’s academic journey, textbooks and notebooks often take center stage in education. While the government provides students with bags and books at the start of the school year, additional supplies are often needed to ensure a creative and seamless learning experience. Over the past 20 years of working with government schools, Asha has recognized this gap and stepped in to address it by providing essential stationery supplies to complement those supplied by the government.

Asha coordinators and teachers in each project personally visit the schools to distribute these supplies to students and the Headmasters or Headmistresses. This annual drive typically takes place in August-September across all Asha-supported schools, helping to enrich the learning environment and support the students’ overall growth.

Project Sangamam and Project Poorna Vidhya

Since our projects are located in different districts, we do not opt for centralized buying and distribution of stationery materials. Every project orders from a vendor close to their location bearing in mind price points that have been negotiated by the administrative team in Chennai. For Projects Sangamam and Poorna Vidhya that are closer to the Chennai office in Mylapore, the orders are placed in Chennai. We have been using the same vendor for the past few years and the materials and the quality have been of good standard. This year as well, we placed our order with Computer Gallery and Today’s Stationery.

The distribution drive at Project Sangamam began on 10 Sep, 2024 and concluded on 17 Sep,2024. This drive covered 87 schools benefitting over 4,800 students.

Project Pearl

Asha’s Pearl project operates in Thoothukudi and Thirunelveli districts. The required stationery materials were sourced from Ganapathy Paper Mart, Thirunelveli. Following are the list of items that were provided to the schools.

The Pearl Project was the first to kick off the material distribution drive in Tamilnadu, which commenced and concluded in August 2024. This initiative benefited approximately 2,800 students across 28 schools, including 22 schools supported under Amazon’s Future Engineer (AFE) program. Project Thulasi

Asha’s Project Thulasi supports government schools in Villupuram and Thiruvannamalai districts. Materials for Thulasi were placed at Sivasakthi Enterprises, Thiruvannamalai. Following are the items distributed this year-

The material distribution was done between October 9 to 18. We provided materials to 25 schools out of which, 20 schools are supported by Amazon under its Amazon’s Future Engineer (AFE) program and 5 schools are under the Asha budget. This drive has served 2400 government school children under the project.

Project Cauvery

Under Project Cauvery, we work with government schools around Mannargudi in Thiruvarur district. The team procured stationery materials from Ranjith Traders in Thiruvarur. The distribution was done between September 20-27 which benefitted 1,115 children in 18 government schools. Below listed are the materials distributed by Project Cauvery –

Project Rajatalab

Asha has had a longstanding presence in the areas around Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Currently, we support 12 schools in this region and are expanding our efforts to include 4 schools in the Mirzapur area. Rajatalab was the first project to start the distribution drive, which was in early July. Nearly 2600 students have benefited from the stationeries supplied by Asha in Uttar Pradesh.
