Amazon has selected Asha as a partner for its Amazon Future Engineer program. Under this partnership Amazon will support Asha’s CS education program at 100 schools. Asha will also implement Amazon’s Explore and Class Chats programmes.

Amazon has selected Asha as a partner for its Amazon Future Engineer program. Under this partnership Amazon will support Asha’s CS education program at 100 schools. Asha will also implement Amazon’s Explore and Class Chats programmes.

As of April 2022 Asha Chennai was supporting 100 schools with computer teachers and teaching the children our own CS curriculum. Amazon will be supporting this in 50 of our existing schools as well as fund the extension of it to 50 new schools supporting the program in a total of 100 schools.

Asha’s computer science curriculum based on Code.org, Scratch, Blockly etc. was found to be in good allignment with Amazon’s thrust on teaching programming to children. Asha also in addition teaches digital literacy and uses computers to enhance general education through Asha Kanini. Asha further provides material assistance to the schools in the form of stationery materials, maintaining their computers etc. Asha also supports joyful education for the children in the form of support for functions in the school, excursion for the children etc. Amazon has come forward to support all of these!

Asha will also implement Amazon Future Engineer’s Explore and Class Chat program in a broader geography. In the Explore program, each teacher will travel to a larger set of schools to introduce children to computer science through a standard set of activities. We are planning to reach out to about 30000 children in 300 schools using 10 teachers through this program. Their class chat program connects an employee volunteer of Amazon (who is given training for tihs) with a class in a school. The volunteer will talk about their journey to/in Amazon, their education and career etc. This will provide motivation for the children to pursue their education and understand what they can do in terms of a career.

Asha also hopes to learn from the other established partners of Amazon who have been working in the field of technology and education for long. At Asha we hope this is the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership.
