20th July 2016: Hyundai Glovis organised a function for signing the MOU for the continuation of their support to the Glovis Project Sangamam for the third year.
Glovis India Pvt. Ltd., (“Glovis”) is a leading worldwide logistics solutions provider. Glovis maximizes operational efficiencies in Customer’s value chain and contributes to realizing global competitive advantages with differentiated and value-added logistics & trading services. They are a group company of Hyundai Motors and are based out of Sriperumbudur.
Asha for Education is an NGO that is working towards providing basic education for the underprivileged in India. Asha has over 60 chapters spread across the world. The Chennai chapter of Asha, since their inception in 2002, has been working on improving the standard of education in government schools in Tamilnadu.
Asha has been working with government schools in the Poondi block of Thiruvallur district since 2004. Since 2014, Glovis has partnered with Asha to improve the educational standards at eight schools in the Poondi block of Thiruvallur Dist as part of the Glovis Sangamam project.
As part of the Glovis Sangamam project these schools have all been provided additional teachers. The schools have received educational and sports materials. The infrastructure at the schools has been improved. Libraries have been setup at many of these schools. The schools have been provided with essential materials like mats for the children to sit on, water drums for drinking water, stationery materials to use in classrooms etc. The children have also been given good bags and health/hygiene kits. The teachers have been trained by experts in Maths and English. Assessments have been conducted for all the children to identify gaps in learning and evolved training program in line with the findings. Further all the Asha teachers have been provided laptops with Internet connection and preloaded with contents aligned to the Samacheer Kalvi curriculum. The teachers have also been trained to use these effectively.
All our efforts are also bearing fruit in that the enrollment at most of these schools are improving and the teachers and students are showing improvements in their skill levels.
A function was held today to sign the MOU for the continuation of the project into the third year. Glovis will be supporting the Glovis Sangamam project implemented by Asha for Education for the third academic year – 2016-17. The function was attended by the Managing Director Mr. Min Joo and several staff from Glovis. Several volunteers of Asha Chennai as well as teachers appointed by Asha at the various schools also attended the function. MOUs were signed by Mr. Min Joo and Mr. Rajaraman, coordinator of Asha Chennai. Members of Glovis spoke about the focus of the company on its core values which include helping develop the community it is working in and about the history of its CSR activities in Tamilnadu since 2012. Members of Asha Chennai spoke about the activities of the Glovis Sangamam project and thanked Glovis for its generous support for these Eight schools.
