ASHA EVENT CALENDAR 2026-27 | |
JUNE 2026 | |
 | Schools Reopen Students and teachers return to school after the summer break. In preparation for the new academic year, Asha organized a 5‑day Rightstart teacher training program in May 2026. During this time, newly recruited teachers received training to equip them for the year ahead. Government schools officially reopened on 4 June 2026. |
 | Roadmap & Resource Allocation Asha Chennai carries out its annual planning exercise between April and July, during which the scope of all projects is defined and funds are strategically allocated to support them. |
 | Teachers Evaluation Exam Over 200 Asha teachers from different projects and regions will take part in the Teacher Evaluation Exam to be held on June 13, 2026. This annual exam helps assess teachers’ subject knowledge and identify areas where training is needed. |
| New RTC Inauguration Asha’s 14th RTC to be inaugurated under the Pearl Project in Vannikonendal, Thirunelveli. The new center will be taught by Ms. P. Nithya and Ms. S. Tamilselvi. |
 | Asha Impressions at Thoothukudi The Asha Impressions event will be conducted on 20 June,2026, Saturday. Projects submitted by students learning Digital Literacy will be selected to be showcased in front of judges. The winners take away exciting prizes! |
JULY 2026 | |
 | Amazon TIS Makerspace workshop Students and teachers from our RTC will travel to Bengaluru to attend a 3 workshop on Robotics, 3-D printing and embedded systems training at the Amazon TIS Makerspace in Bengaluru. |
 | Audit The audit of Asha Trust will be completed while, Asha South India will be under process. Previous years’ audit reports can be found on the About Us page. |
 | Procurement and distribution of stationery supplies. Asha will provide essential materials to both schools and students- including classroom resources such as charts, plain paper, and floor mats, along with notebooks, pens, geometry boxes, and other student essentials. The distribution will begin in July and end by August. You may read about the distribution done in 2025 here. |
 | Uniform kits for teachers Each academic year, Asha provides two sets of uniforms to all our teachers. The procurement and distribution start in July and end by August. |
AUGUST 2025 | |
 | RTC Impressions IITM Pravartak and Asha jointly operate 14 Rural Technology Centers (RTCs), where student learn computer courses for free. Project work forms a vital part of the curriculum. Students engage in hands-on, in-depth projects aligned with their coursework and are given the opportunity to present their work before a distinguished panel of judges at RTC Impressions. |
 | Selection of candidates for scholarship Invite applications from underprivileged students aiming to fund the school/college fees, cost of uniform and books from elementary to college. Candidates will be selected in August and fund disbursement will be done in three installments over the year. |
 | Procurement and distribution of stationery supplies at our projects continue. |
SEPTEMBER 2026 | |
 | End of Term I As examinations take priority, our computer and KaradiPath teachers scale back their school visits and focus instead on content development and training activities at the project offices. |
 | RTC Certificate Distribution Course completion certificates are distributed to all RTC students who passed the exams, submitted projects and met the attendance requirement. The ceremonies are held in Thiruvallur, Thoothukudi and Thiruvanamalai, where the RTCs are located. |
 | Teachers’ Excursion With schools temporarily closed, Asha teachers use this time to unwind and recharge, often heading out on group excursions. Last year our teachers visited Coorg for the annual teacher excursion. This year, we’re excited to continue the tradition with a journey to Munnar. |
OCTOBER 2026 | |
 | Math and Science training Asha conducts Math and Science training sessions across all its projects to enhance subject-specific teaching methods. This year we plan to conduct on the MESAL activities developed by Asha. These sessions will be led by Asha teachers. |
 | Amazon TIS Makerspace workshop Two more batches of students and teachers from our RTCs will travel to Bengaluru to attend a 3 workshop on Robotics, 3-D printing and embedded systems training at the Amazon TIS Makerspace in Bengaluru. |
 | Participate in the ICSEC Conference Asha plans to participate in the ICSEC Conference in Korea this October. International Computer Science Education Consortium is an international network of leaders advancing digital and CS education globally. |
NOVEMBER 2026 | |
 | Oral assessments Conducted annually around October–November at all Asha-supported schools in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. These evaluations aim to gauge the foundational learning levels of students in primary and high schools. Over the years, we have systematically gathered this data to track educational progress and assess the impact of Asha’s various initiatives. You may read the 2024 report here. |

DECEMBER 2026 | |
| Computer Science training at Thiruvallur All Asha Chennai computer instructors from Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh gather in Thiruvallur for a three-day training program. You may read the report here. |
 | End of Term II As children get busy with exams, our teachers reduce their visits to the school and take up content work and other training activities. |
 | Participate in the T4E Conference The International Conference on Technology 4 Education (T4E 2026) is organized by the EdTech Society, India, and hosted by IIT Jodhpur. T4E 2026 will be held in Jodhpur, India, from December 7th to 9th, 2026. Asha plans to attend this conference this year. |
JANUARY 2027 | |
 | Student excursions Last year, we organized 11 excursions, engaging 31 buses and reaching more than 2,200 students. These excursions are typically held on weekends to avoid disrupting government school schedules, and are organized in close coordination with both school staff and the education department.  | Semester completion at RTCs As students conclude their coursework for the term, they are required to submit a final project and complete an assessment to mark the end of the semester. Around January, students start preparing for the same. |
| Medical Camp at Asha For the past two years, Asha has been organizing medical camps for its staff. These camps include blood and urine tests, along with consultations with a doctor. |
 | Blackboard painting To remain usable, the blackboards in schools require a fresh coat of paint at least once a year. We undertake the initiative of painting the blackboards in our supported schools. |
FEBRUARY 2027 | |
| Student excursions remain ongoing across all projects — Children from our projects in Thiruvallur, Thoothukudi, Thiruvannamalai, Thiruvarur, and Chennai continue to participate in these outings. |
 | Written assessments These large-scale evaluations, spanning over 180 schools and involving more than 15,000 students, help us identify learning gaps and shape our strategies for addressing them. You may watch the video here. |
 | RTC Impressions The second RTC Impressions for the year is held in February. At Asha Rural Technology Centers, our terms run from Feb to July and Aug to Jan. Once the Aug to Jan term is completed, the best projects are featured at the RTC Impressions event. |
 | RTC Assessments Written and practical assessments are carried out at all RTCs. The students who pass the exams are awarded Completion Certificates. |
 | The Asha India Conference This annual gathering brings together representatives from all Asha chapters in India, including Assam, Mumbai, Rajatalab, Kaithi, Manipur, Kanpur, Ballia, Lucknow, Gandhiji School Pondicherry, and Chennai. The last conference was hosted by Asha Chennai. You may read the report here. |
MARCH 2027 | |
 | Annual Day celebrations At Asha-supported schools, we provide snacks and prizes to students as part of the festivities. Our volunteers and coordinators actively participate in these events, offering encouragement and support to the children. Asha supported annual day at 130 schools last year. |
| Evaluation of written assessments To ensure impartiality, answer papers from each project are cross-evaluated by another project. Based on the results, we generate detailed performance reports for each school. |
 | Computer Assessments Asha teachers from a different school administer the assessments, which include both written and practical components. Each student completes the assessment individually using a computer. |
 | RTC Student Excursion Students from our RTCs go out for excursion after the end of their second term. You may read the full report here. |
 | Asha Impressions at UP Like the Asha Impressions held at Chennai, we launched an Impressions event at UP last year. Students are welcomed to present their projects in front of judges who select the best ones as winners. |
APRIL 2027 | |
 | Submission of projects by all SPRINT schools. Students begin working on their projects. Asha Lead teachers and volunteers work on the first level selections for the Asha Impressions event. |
 | Assessment reports to all schools. Once the grading of the written tests is completed, we draw out performance report of each school and share them with the respective schools. While the grading is completed in April, the reports are finalized in May and distributed to schools in June when they reopen post summer vacation. |
 | Wrap up of the accounts for 25-26. In April-May we will wrap up our accounts for the previous year and submit these to our auditors. |
 | Asha Impressions A celebration of creativity and innovation from Asha-supported SPRINT schools! Last year, students submitted 1,352 projects from 179 schools across Thiruvallur, Thiruvarur, Thiruvanamalai, and Chennai. Shortlisted by lead teachers and volunteers, the most impactful projects will be showcased in front of an esteemed panel of external judges. You may read the report here. |
 | End of Term III With the academic year coming to an end, the teachers get busy with content work and other training activities. |
MAY 2027 | |
 | Proposals for upcoming year. Start the process of planning for every project and for Asha Chennai as a whole for the year 2026-27. |
 | Recruitment of new teachers takes place after the academic year concludes. All new hires are encouraged to attend RightStart, Asha’s annual teacher training program. Entrance exams for prospective teachers are conducted across all project locations in May. |
 | RightStart Annual Teacher Training – Each year, as the academic term concludes and summer vacation begins, Asha conducts its flagship teacher training program, RightStart, in May. For over two decades—excluding a two-year pause during the COVID period—Asha teachers have come together for this 5-day event. Led by expert external trainers, the sessions focus topics of general interest like pedagogy, purpose of education, dealing with learning challenges in addition to training the teachers to teach Maths, English etc. |
